why i love maxwell...UPDATED!!!

if somebody can sing better than Maxwell technically then my musical tastes have to be distorted...

of course that's why we call it taste because we possess different palates for musical consumption. Our preferences and choices allow us to choose which is lyrically edible and tonally audible and therefore conclude which singers have the best voices and whose vocal chords suck. Our ears are musically biased in one way or another. We are attuned to a certain voice because of many factors. But mine is so biased I would have to say this guy has the most beautiful voice in the world. His vocal range is amazing for a guy! Heck I have no idea where the sheer volume of his falsetto comes from! Hahaha!

i never tire of listening to this for example...

Most of all , he can sing LIVE this way, which by the way is always...for me...ALWAYS...testament to a great singer...if he can replicate but not necessarily duplicate the tonal challenges of the original recorded song then he is a champion...

the fact that maxwell had only been averagely successful during his time....well at least sales-wise compared to a Ricky Martin or John Legend makes him appealing to me because this means that he is not that famous, has a bit of elusiveness to him and MORE SO he is one special artists who has not succumbed to compromising originality and artistry to commercial mainstreaming...I have seen many singer-songwriter's creativity and diverse musical identity coagulate because they made records or it seemed that they created music which was tailor-made for mass production demands and tastes...

if i have to describe his music it is soulful, very very black (i have nothing against blacks of course as they are the best singers in this business i believe), and his voice is sugarcoated with an emotional undertone that seems to envelop me and leaves an indescribable aching in my being. i have listened to his tracks over and over trying to write sentences about the effect he has on me but those words are the best way to describe it...I will try to put up his other record here which I so dearly love that I would play it over and over in my pod!

...and even if he is not that visible anymore nowadays I believe he has left his legacy of powerfully magnetic and emotionally pulling sound in the songs he has produced. They will be intact in my musical archives. He is a champion for me, nevermind the lack of financial success and mass appeal which many singers strive for! His originality is water in the dry, dull, and lifeless cacophonical desert of today's musical industry.
